Brazil's sugarcane ethanol emission reduction effect is significant

According to the Sao Paulo Sugarcane Industry Association, Brazil has reduced emissions of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere by 103 million tons in the seven years since Brazil began to launch flexible fuel vehicle FLEX in 2003, which is equivalent to the total emissions of Greece in 2007.

Alfred Swak, technical and emissions consultant at the São Paulo Sugarcane Association, said that Brazil's sugarcane ethanol will continue to play an important role in improving air quality and slowing global warming.

At present, Brazil's automobile fuels are forcibly added with 25% ethanol. Brazil's flex-fuel vehicles can use any ratio of gasoline and ethanol. Compared to gasoline, sugarcane ethanol accounts for 90% less greenhouse gas emissions.
