Most of the time in early August, the international potash market was calm. However, one or two suppliers have reported competitive prices for certain markets.
The price of potash fertilizer in the U.S. market has declined. There are multiple sources of information saying that the price per tonne has dropped by 15 U.S. dollars. However, some traders said that the price once fell to 460-465 US dollars per short ton, and later returned to 470 US dollars.
Even in Brazil, where potash demand is strong, prices have fallen. The firmness of soybean prices and the strong demand for potash also failed to stop the decline in potash prices. In early July, the supplier wanted to restore the CIF price to 550-560 dollars, but the price rebounded only slightly to 530-535 dollars.
Worse yet, there have been rumors recently that the CIF of potassium chloride has fallen back to 510-515 dollars or even lower. One supplier disclosed that its CIF for August cargo sources had been as low as US$530, which still failed to attract the interest of buyers. After that, it once again lowered the CIF price to US$525, but the buyers were still not interested.
In Southeast Asia, bulk standard potassium chloride of US$535 was nowhere to be found. Two weeks ago, the North American Potash Sales Consortium had confirmed that its sales price was $510, and now many suppliers have admitted that it is still difficult to find buyers even if the price drops to $500. In early August, the trading volume of the international potash fertilizer market was also very small.
