China's veneer industry faces three major problems

For more than a decade, veneer production factories and dealers have been blooming, and veneers have also grown from the earliest imports to domestic production. According to the Industrial Wood Plywood Market Management Office, at the beginning, there were only a few dozen merchants operating the veneer and the edge banding, but the current number is nearly 300, and the business scope is even more encompassing wood species around the world. Simply speaking from the data, the development of China's veneer industry has achieved remarkable results, but in the deep sense, too rapid development has also brought a variety of hidden dangers.

On the one hand, although wood veneer industry has been in domestic development for more than 10 years, compared with the history of Europe and the United States in the past 100 years, production experience, processing equipment, and cost control are still far inferior. In Europe and the United States, most veneer companies only have a few varieties. After a long period of experience and technical level improvement, the company's management and production operations are quite mature; however, the production technology of domestic veneer companies is uneven. Relatively backward, produced products of low quality, low added value, and high-grade veneers such as tree tufts, shadow wood still can not meet the production requirements, and even many companies only do simple processing and earn a little processing fees.

On the other hand, with the increasing strain on timber resources and the gradual improvement of people’s environmental protection and aesthetic concepts, the state is also strongly advocating the establishment of a conservation-oriented and environment-friendly society. In addition, as the price of raw materials rises higher and higher, the cost of enterprises gradually increases, and the control of costs through technology has always been the weakness of domestic veneer production. In China, only about 70% of a cubic meter of raw wood shavings are suitable for the production of veneer, and there will be losses during production and processing. Therefore, the final utilization rate of raw materials will be only about 60%. This utilization rate is actually quite low. However, this has not been taken seriously by most domestic distributors, and many manufacturers still focus only on how to cut veneer even thinner.

How to improve the utilization of raw materials, strengthen the production management of enterprises, and improve the technical level are the major challenges that domestic veneer companies must face.
