The launch of the Mars probe consists of a "Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO)" and a lander called "Skyarelli". Among them, TGO can detect methane and other trace gases in the Martian atmosphere, as well as the distribution of solid water in Martian soil, providing strong evidence for the existence or existence of organic life in Mars. The lander mainly measures the atmospheric particles, wind speed and temperature data on the surface of Mars, and also prepares for the subsequent launch of the Mars rover.
According to the plan, the Mars probe will fly for about 7 months, and the orbiter will be separated from the lander on October 16; on October 19, the orbiter will enter the orbit around Mars, and the lander will land; after the ignition brake A six-year-old Mars atmosphere will be braked and it is planned to begin relevant scientific experiments in mid-2017.
The second phase of the ExoMars mission will launch a Russian-made landing platform and a Mars rover developed by ESA. The core mission is to drill the Martian soil using drilling tools and instruments carried by the Rover. Scientists believe that traces of organic living organisms may be found under the soil layer of several meters of Mars. The second phase of the mission is likely to be postponed until 2020, and Europe and Russia are currently discussing the issue.
