According to the initial safety assessment, work areas should be prepared before starting work.

The field commander is responsible for the following:

1. Set up a perimeter and perimeter cordon

2. Set up a work area around the vehicle

3 , set up a temporary tool storage area

4 , set up debris heap, place vehicle parts

Internal and peripheral cordon

The establishment of inner perimeter and perimeter cordon was for better command and control. Although sometimes it is not feasible, it is recommended to use the actual items to set up perimeter cordon. This can be a police seal / fire tape. The purpose is to prevent irrelevant people from approaching the rescue scene and endanger safety.

The inner perimeter cordon can also be a physical barrier, but this may hinder the progress of the rescue. It is generally recommended to limit the 2-5 meter area ( 6-15 feet), as detailed below. This is the direct danger zone, only to have to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment and rescue personnel (technical and medical personnel) to enter.

Work area

This is the area around the vehicle. Rescue workers must know:

2 meters area ( 6 feet)

This area is the nearest area around the vehicle. The area must be free of debris, glass, and parts of the vehicle. Relief workers can be placed in this area when they are not using tools.

However, if the tool is used up, it should be placed outside the area or placed directly into the tool staging area.

2-5 meters ( 6-15 feet)

This area is between 2 and 5 meters ( 6 to 15 feet) from the vehicle . This area can be used to prepare tools, make simple instructions, communicate, and so on. The region is the scene commander for the region to grasp the overall security situation and progress of.

Fragment heap

The field commander should designate a debris heap. This area can be used to place vehicle parts (doors, etc.). It is important to separate the components of several vehicles (if there are more than one accident vehicle) to assist in the investigation. It is very important that the debris heap should not be too far away from the vehicle, otherwise it will overburden them when rescue workers move heavy vehicle parts . Similarly, the debris pile should not be too close to the vehicle, otherwise it may endanger the safety of the site.

Tool staging area

The area where tools should be temporarily stored should be at a proper distance from the work area. This will make the rescue process safer, easier and faster. Do not leave the tool temporary area too close to the vehicle. This kind of action may make rescue difficult. Similarly, if the temporary area of ​​the tool is too far from the vehicle, then the picking up and returning of the tool can be very costly. Once you do not need to use any tools, you must put them back into the staging area. At the same time, people who are unrelated to the accident should stay in the area. In this way, field commanders will know what resources they can use .

! IMPORTANT - If a helicopter enters the scene of an accident (such as an ambulance), make sure that the landing site is not too close to the debris pile. The undershoot of the helicopter is very strong and can lift the removed vehicle parts during the rescue.
