Picea jezoen (s-sCalx.), also known as the fish scale pine, is an evergreen tree of the family Pinus spruce.

Morphological characteristics

Spruce has a long life span, and the trunk is tall and straight, up to 40 meters, and the breast diameter is about 1 meter. Branches flattened, apex slightly sag, lower branches obliquely, conical crown, or old-time cylindrical, bark dark brown, old gray-brown, scaly peeling. The cone is cylindrical or oblong, 4-6 cm long, seed ovate, 2.4-3.0 mm long, black, winged elliptic, ca. 9 mm long, 3 mm wide, fruiting from September to October.

Growth habit

Negative tree species, shallow roots, like to be born on the soil, deep, moist, fertile, well-drained slightly acidic brown forest soil, good growth and development, not tolerant to drought, thin, saline. Dry, thin mountainous areas are poorly grown or unable to grow. Can withstand low temperatures and cold.

distribution area

It is distributed in the Daxinganling, Xiaoxing'anling and Changbai Mountains in the northeast of China, with an altitude of 300-2000 meters. It is often mixed with red spruce, red pine, fir, larch, color wood, eucalyptus and birch.

The fish scale spruce is excellent in material, light in wood, easy to process and widely used. It is a good papermaking, joinery, manufacturing equipment, aviation, papermaking and construction materials. It is an important timber species in the northeast forest area.
