Korean machine tool production value maintains 60% growth rate

South Korea's exports of machine tools to China reached 43%, and the company hopes to further expand its market share. In 2010, the Korean machine tool industry showed a recovery growth, and the industrial scale reached a record high. According to data released by Gardner Publications Inc. of Gardner Publishing Company, in 2010, the production scale of Korean metal processing machine tools ranked fifth in the world with US$4.49 billion, up 63% year-on-year; exports ranked seventh with US$1.68 billion. Growth was 37%; imports ranked fourth with US$1.44 billion, up 34% year-on-year; while consumption ranked fourth with US$4.26 billion, up 59% year-on-year. It can be seen that South Korea has become an important part of the world machine tool market. According to KOMMA analysis of the Korea Machine Tool Industry Association, the Korean machine tool industry can quickly recover from the financial crisis, and many indicators have significantly increased than the record of the best performance in 2008. The data shows that the development of Korean machine tools in recent years and its rapid recovery from the crisis are inseparable from the rapid development of the Chinese machine tool market. In 2010, the top three categories of Korean machine tool export categories were: CNC lathes accounted for 364 million US dollars, processing centers accounted for 339 million US dollars, and presses accounted for 244 million US dollars, up 17.4%, 57.6%, and 41.3%, respectively. China is the largest importer of CNC machine tools, CNC machining centers and presses, the three largest exporters of machine tools in Korea. Among them, the processing center's exports to China increased by 77.5% year-on-year to US$209 million, accounting for 61.6%. Due to the promising prospects of the Chinese machine tool market, Korean machine tool manufacturers have indicated that they will develop products suitable for the needs of Chinese users, thereby expanding their market share in China. Doosan is the largest machine tool company in Korea. Its executive director of sales said that Doosan machine tools are cheaper than German and Japanese machine tools, but they are not inferior in quality and function. China's automotive, construction machinery and wind power generation are all future development priorities, and Doosan is also actively focusing on market demand from these sectors. Doosan will accelerate the development of new products and strive to increase its market share in China from the current 3% to 7-8% within five years. Local machine tool enterprises need to improve their competitiveness as soon as possible. China's machine tool industry has experienced more than 60 years of development, especially since the reform and opening up, but it has made great progress, but it is not strong overall. In 2010, the numerical control rate of China's metal cutting machine tools was 52.5%, but it was 30% lower than South Korea's 88%. The level of CNC lathes and machining centers produced in Korea is slightly higher than that of Chinese products. However, at present, China's CNC machine tools are still dominated by economy, and the added value of products is very low. However, Chinese enterprises also have their own unique advantages, such as they have many years of traditional machine tool production base, and at the same time have a certain amount of technical accumulation in a certain manufacturing process, especially the mechanical precipitation of casting/forging technology in the mechanical part, and the financing channels are extensive. Enterprises with a certain traditional market share and capital accumulation can set up large enterprise groups in advance, and absorb and digest foreign relatively advanced technologies through acquisition and holding. Luo Baihui pointed out that Chinese enterprises need to seize good development opportunities, strengthen independent innovation, improve the level of technology and industrialization, and actively explore emerging markets in order to cope with future market competition.
